Ikat, also known as Ikkat, originates from the Malay word "mengikat," meaning "tie, bind, or wrap around." This technique creates intricate patterns by tying sections of yarn to resist dyeing before weaving. In single Ikat, either the warp or weft yarn is resist-dyed, while double Ikat involves tying and dyeing both warp and weft yarns.

Various regions in India, such as Odisha, Gujarat, and Andhra/Telangana, have distinct Ikat weaving styles with unique designs and motifs. Andhra Ikat, for example, emphasizes floral and geometric patterns.

Our collection of Pochampally Ikat cotton sarees features pieces woven from pure cotton or a blend of pure and mercerised cotton, as specified in the product details. These sarees are dyed using eco-friendly, azo-free dyes.
